In-House Diagnostics

In-House Diagnostics

Early detection is key when it comes to treating your pet, and Belleview West Animal Hospital offers complete in-house diagnostics, including advanced equipment and an on-site laboratory. This saves time, money, and, most importantly, you don’t have to wait days for results, meaning your pet receives an accurate diagnosis and necessary treatment sooner.

Our In-House Laboratory

Our hospital has the capability to perform various blood screens, pre-surgical blood work, urinalysis, and other types of testing on-site, rather than sending samples to an outside lab.

Pet diagnostics provided in our hospital include:

  • Liver enzyme screening
  • Pancreatic evaluation
  • Renal (kidney) profiles
  • Complete blood counts (CBC)
  • General chemistries
  • Blood gas analysis
  • FeLV and FIV testing in cats
  • Parvovirus testing in dogs
  • Heartworm testing

While we offer an extensive range of on-site pet diagnostics, some cases may require specialized laboratory work beyond our scope. When needed, we’re happy to send samples to trusted outside labs and will review results with you as soon as they’re available.

Digital Radiology (X-Rays)

Belleview West Animal Hospital employs advanced digital imaging technology to ensure the highest quality of care for our patients. We utilize state-of-the-art digital radiology to ensure precise and reliable diagnostic imaging, which is essential for accurate veterinary care.

X-rays, or radiographs, utilize electromagnetic radiation to produce detailed images of internal structures. These images are invaluable for detecting skeletal fractures, soft tissue damage, foreign bodies, dental disease, and other abnormalities.

Digital radiology offers significant advantages over film: it’s faster and safer, with less radiation exposure for pets and staff. Images are crisp, detailed, and available immediately for quicker diagnosis and treatment. Digital radiology also facilitates the easy sharing of images with other veterinary specialists or facilities if needed. Last but not least, the absence of film processing makes digital X-rays more environmentally friendly, as there are no chemical wastes to manage.

Ultrasound Imaging

Ultrasound is a powerful, non-invasive diagnostic tool that creates real-time images of your pet’s internal structures. This technology provides valuable insights into the functioning of the circulatory, skeletal, and gastrointestinal systems.

Ultrasound works by broadcasting high-frequency sound waves that reflect off internal structures. A small probe held against the skin collects these signals to create detailed images. When used in conjunction with other diagnostic tools such as X-rays, ultrasounds help identify diseases, GI blockages, skeletal fractures, soft tissue damage, and other internal conditions.

We most commonly use ultrasound to examine abdominal organs like the stomach, kidneys, liver, spleen, and gallbladder. Cardiac ultrasounds (echocardiograms) provide precise information about heart valves, blood flow, chamber size, and contractions.
